Ode to Kevin Youkilis

Kevin Youkilis, you’re a pretty good guy
Trying to stay in when hit in the eye
In between innings while warming up;
At least you didn’t get hit in the cup.
And the day before you had a walk-off blast
That in 13 innings moved the Red Sox past
The Cardinals who we smoked in ’04
When you were just getting you foot in the door.
You moved to first base and you really perspire
You play every day, but never seem to tire,
And for 238 games you didn’t have an error-
Can Lugo say that? The answer is never.
Once in a while, you’ll get really mad
And throw stuff around the dugout a tad,
But that’s because you play so intense
Ripping line-drives over the fence,
Walking so much you’re like always on base,
Growing a small rodent on your face.
Getting all dirty and not taking a bath,
Using Gatorade coolers to take out your wrath.
Youk, you wear emotion all over your sleeve-
Helmets and shin-guards you love to heave.
Thanks Kevin for playing so hard-
You’re dirty before stepping onto the yard.
And we count on you to handle that throw
That’s sailing off-target from Julio Lugo.

Excellent Ode to the Yooooook.
Our favorite thing is to scream out Yooooouuuuuuk when he’s at bat. A lifetime highlight was doing it in person at Fenway. When everyone screams the sound is intense.
You noticed his perspiration, too???? Yuck!

I got all excited when the announcers described Youk’s wound as a ‘blue mouse’ but I didn’t see anything that I could catch. What did they mean by that?

Sorry, I couldn’t resist, had to give it a shot, please forgive cadence — you started it! Don’t know if this is acceptable blog protocol, to attempt to answer in poem as well.
If I had a face like you,
so cute, adorable, and cuddly too,
looking so much like man’s best friend,
I’d have no mean thoughts or words to blend,
into my blog that is, unless of course they were true,
in which case, there would be nothing else I could do,
than to tell it like it is, — no other way that I would know,
to (in my Ode to Youk) bury my favorite bone ’bout Lugo,
so that my friends could gnaw, chew, and bark but not bite….
and fancy that they too are still cute, harmless, and nice! grrrh.
Oh well, that was fun, my apologies to everyone.

Thanks for all the poems, animals! Plus thanks for helping my blog into the Top 3 for the year! I admit the Red Sox have been helping my traffic by linking to me, even though I have bashed Lugo pretty hard and don’t plan on stopping! The Google has also helped my traffic. I rank on the first page for keywords such as “trade Julio Lugo” and “kfc smoky chipotle crispy,” that actually send me traffic. I’m still a little jealous of my brother’s blog though, which currently ranks #1 on Google for the keyword “raw meat feasting”. Bark at you soon!
